San Sisto College, Carina - 'Dominicus' Courtyard Re-Development

In 2020, San Sisto College engaged our team to design a concept for revitalising an underutilised courtyard within the college grounds. Drawing inspiration from the college’s strong connection to its namesake town in Italy, the final design layers structures and spaces that gradually reveal themselves to those who explore the precinct. A considered mix of textured materials, shaded planting, and defined pathways guides movement through the space, creating moments of discovery along the way. The composition balances echoes of the “old” with expressions of the “new,” offering a variety of environments for both gathering and quiet reflection. The result is a precinct that celebrates heritage while providing students and staff with a renewed sense of place.

San Sisto College, Carina - Staff Area Upgrade

About:
In 2021, we designed a subtle alteration to the existing staff area. The adjacent balcony, which was previously fully exposed and untidy, has been transformed into a welcoming outdoor space that has quickly become a favourite among teachers. Additionally, a casual lounge area was introduced within the main space to create a clear division between quiet and busy zones. By reusing the full-width bifold doors, an existing enclosed meeting room was reconfigured to open directly onto the balcony, enhancing connectivity and flow. The client now regularly uses this refreshed setting for seminars and smaller functions, enjoying the improved versatility and atmosphere.
