In 2015, we designed a small extension to an existing farmhouse in Brandenburg, Germany. The client’s vision was to restore the building as closely as possible to its original character, while adapting it to the needs of a young family. The new Wintergarten—a contemporary interpretation of a traditional idea—extends the kitchen and dining space into the backyard, creating a light-filled area that offers an “outdoor” experience even during the cold winter months. The design blends old and new, preserving the home’s historic charm while enhancing its functionality and year-round comfort.
